Programs Defined

The following are some of the programs I work with and a brief overview of what they are used for. I offer training in the basic uses of all of these programs.

Adobe Suite CC (Creative Cloud):

PhotoShop PhotoShop Extended is a raster-graphics editor. PhotoShop is used to edit photographs, and create and edit images from scratch, including 3D.
Illustrator Illustrator is a vector graphics editor. One of the limitations of most image types is up-scaling. It is easier to make an image smaller than it is to make it larger. Images, like logos for example, can be created with programs like Illustrator to be scaled up or down to any size without losing the integrity of the image.
After Effects After Effects is a digital motion graphics and compositing program. It is used to create animations and adding visual effects to video. Though powerful enough to edit professional films and television programs, it can also be used to create and edit web videos used to promote ideas or websites.
Soundbooth Audition is a digital audio workstation from Adobe Systems. After edits are done to the images and sounds, they are put together in Premiere Pro to create the final product.
Premiere Premiere Pro is a linear timeline-based video editing program that works with After Effects, Soundbooth and other Adobe programs. After edits are done to the images and sounds, they are put together in Premiere Pro to create the final product.
Flash Flash is a program used to create web animations and web videos. Although it is powerful enough to create websites, it does have limitations. Computers require a free Flash player to see content created in this program. Apple’s popular iPad and iPhone products do not support Flash.
Dreamweaver Dreamweaver is a program used to create and edit websites.

Open Source Tool Kit:

the GIMP GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free and open source raster graphics editor. Like PhotoShop, it can be used to edit photos and create and edit images from scratch. GIMP can also create gif and MPEG animations.
inkscape Inkscape is a free and open source vector graphics editor (see Illustrator). Inkscape is still in beta.
Blender 3D Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software program. Blender is used to create visuals/visual effects, 3D animations, interactive 3D applications and video games.
Audacity Audacity is a free digital audio editor and recording program. Audacity can be used for all of the stages of audio production, from recording audio from multiple sources to all stages of post-processing and final mixing.
Bluefish Bluefish is a program for developing websites. Bluefish is more than a plain text editor, yet not a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, like Dreamweaver.

Content Management Systems (CMS)

WordPress WordPress is a free and open source blogging tool/content management system (CMS). Currently, WordPress is the most popular CMS program used for creating a variety of websites.
Drupal Drupal is a free and open-source content management system -a back-end system for running websites. It is simple enough for personal blogs, yet complex enough for to corporate, political and government sites. It can also be used in-house for intranet websites for business collaboration.

Other Programs:

P5 Project5 is an audio recording and editing program. In addition, P5 includes drum machines and MIDI sequencers capable of creating professional quality music from scratch.
Pinnacle Pinnacle Studio (Ultimate) is a non-linear video editing program. Though limited, Pinnacle is good for quick video editing and creation.
Net Beans NetBeans is an integrated development environment (IDE) for editing and developing websites.
